1976
First classes with a total of 25 students in attendance started with lessons in Tibetan language (reading and writing) with initiatives from late Geshe Tenzin Rabgye and late Geshe Tenzin Wangdak. Classes were held in the open
1984
The school formally instituted as Sermey Thoesam School by the Abbot Khen Rinpoche Jampa Dhonyoe.
1985
Sermey Thoesam School registered with FCRA for receiving foreign donations: Regn. No. 094590063
1991
Separate kitchen for the school was setup for the School to take care of the nutrition needs of the children with financial support from Khensur Lobsang Tharchin.
The separate kitchen functioned for about 15 years. But with the increasing number of students and rising costs of running it, the daily meals of the children came to be supported under the Monastery’s Common Kitchen.
1994 - 1995
School registered under the Karnataka Registrar of Societies Act 1960 & Registration number 101:94-95 dated 24th August 1994
2001
The School Hall and the 4 guest rooms above it were completed.
2017 - 2019
There has been a steady increase in the number of new admissions.
2019 saw the biggest ever number of new admissions – 246 new admissions in one academic year.Â
This took the total student strength to 600+.
2020 - 2021
saw an increasing number of students choosing to join the Monastery as full time monks (inclusive of those who are over the age of 15 and those who completed class VIII at the School.Â
In 2019, a big group of Chakma boys joined the School but the Covid-19 Lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 seem to have made them feel extra far from their families so a big number of them did not return to the School after the winter break of 2021.

– Presently the school has classes from LKG to class VIII.
– The subjects taught are English, Tibetan, Science, Math, Social Studies, Computer, Â English and Tibetan Calligraphy & EVS.
2023 - 2024
– Registration of the first batch (95 students) for the NIOSÂ (National Institute for Open Schooling)Â special class for the students in class 5 and 8, including the monasteries students
2024 - Present
Class 10 was included in the NIOS special class due to the excellent result of 2023 securing 91.76 % overall school %. Class 5 students secured 89.7% and 100% secured by class 8 students.
