The Society is a Registered Society with the Karnataka Registrar of Societies under the Societies Act 1960 with the Registration Number: 101:94-95.  The Books of Accounts are annually audited by a Mysore based Chartered Account and submitted to the offices of:

  •  Karnataka Registrar of Societies, Mysore
  • Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) New Delhi
  • Income Tax Office, Bangalore

The Society is also registered with the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, for receiving FC funds from abroad.

As the School is run 100% free of cost by the Society, the Society is also registered with the Income Tax Office for tax exemption. The Society is totally dependent on donations for the successful running of the School.  It has no financial support from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) or the Government of India.

Infrastructure

The School had a very humble beginning.

In 1976 when the School was just starting with 25 students, the classes were being held in the open. Four years later, the classes could be held in 4 small rooms on lease from the Monastery. Slowly necessary furniture could be arranged for these classrooms.

The big development came with the completion of the main School building in 1988. The double storied building comprises of 20 rooms inclusive of classrooms as well as the Office and School Library.

In 2001, the School Hall and 4 Guest Rooms above it were completed.  The School Hall was used for all school gatherings and functions.

In 2002, with financial assistance from Khensur Ngawang Thekchok, a Computer Room was set up with 12 sets of computers so that the children of class V and above can start to obtain computer operation lessons.

The number of new admissions to the School was going up each year. 2019 saw the biggest number of new admissions to the School with a total of 246 new students in just one academic year.  This took the total number of students at the School to more than 600. The School building that was built for a max capacity of 250 students was getting too over crowded in the classrooms.

In 2018, the old toilets were renovated and expanded to cater to the growing population of students. Then in 2019, 9 new classrooms were constructed to ease the overcrowding in the classrooms. At the same time, the Guest rooms above the School Hall were repurposed and a new specious School Office was done.

A year later, the old School Office was repurposed and made into the Audio/Visual Room. The children of class V and above are given lessons in computer operation, MS Office and basic IT knowledge.

In 2021, the old Debating Courtyard of Sera Mey Monastery was handed over to the School for its use.  As the old School Hall was getting small with the increasing number of children, the Courtyard (open on 3 sides) was used by the School for Morning Assembly and gatherings during the long rainy season.  The Courtyard was walled up on the 3 sides and made into a proper School Hall with good lighting system in place.

The same year, the old kitchen’s floor and walls were renovated. The walls were getting leaky and damp during the long rainy season.  Although the daily meals for the children are now provided for by the Sera  Mey Monastery’s Main Kitchen, the School kitchen  it still being used for making tea for the staff, boiling eggs for the  extra-diet provision to the children and also for lunch preparation for special occasions like Children’s Day, Teachers’ Day, School Annual Picnic and lunch for visiting “School Donor” guests.

In early 2021, greening of the School compound was carried out with plantation of trees, flower beds and also flower pots at vantage points.
